Newark real estate lies within the city and surrounding area roughly twelve miles southwest of Wilmington. Jim Kelly, Realtor - cell: 302-249-8047. Although, traveling along the Kirkwood Highway, Route 2, makes the drive seem much less than that. This is a college town since the University of Delaware is located within city limits. As you can imagine, each school year sees the local population swell quite a bit with the activities of the university students. Newark was settled by Scottish-Irish and Welsh in 1694. The town area also figured in the war maneuvers of the American and British during the Revolutionary War. But Newark got its start much earlier than that as it was founded in 1694 by Welsh and Scots-Irish immigrants. But the town itself was not officially recognized by the English government until 1758 when George II conferred the charter for Newark. As mentioned above, there was activity here during the Revolutionary War. In fact, there was a battle that took place at Cooch's Bridge near the town. One bit of distinction for Newark is that some say the Battle of Cooch's Bridge was the first time the Stars and Stripes was flown during hostile action.

While this area is not generally known as a historic area in terms of old buildings, you will find diversity when it comes to Newark real estate choices. There is an abundance of single family homes in both established developments as well as throughout the town. Of course since the University of Delaware is in Newark, there are plenty of townhomes and condos that exist to serve the students. However, they are available to anyone who desires to take advantage of them. Jim Kelly of NextRE can be reached at his cell phone to answer your questions and provide assistance regarding any matter. A small town, but it hustles and bustles in its own way especially when school is in session. The "main drag" so popular with many is aptly called, Main Street. This is a very nice street that exists to serve the college crowd with an interesting variety of shops and boutiques. In fact, it can be fun just walking up and down Main Street to discover all there is in terms of shopping opportunities. Very many real estate locations are within easy walking distance to both Main Street as well as the University. There are plenty of educational choices available in Newark and surrounding communities. Newark High School, established in 1893, is actually the third largest public high school in Delaware. Then there is a handful of smaller schools not all of which include the high school grades. If you prefer something more progressive for your children, Newark is home to The New School which offers a decidedly non-traditional approach to education. There is a bit of cultural diversity here in Newark due to the University and international students who often live here year round. Plenty of real estate is available in Newark and nearby communities, and the area itself offers tons of family activities and various entertainment possibilities. Give Jim a quick call and discover what he has to tell you about this unique area.
