New Castle County, Delaware Real Estate
New Castle County is one of the three counties in Delaware, and it is found in the upper third part of the state. The county population stood at 538,479 residents according to the 2010 census. That figure represents a 7.6% increase in the last ten years. New Castle County is the largest of the three population-wise, smallest in land area and also the most affluent. The county seat is the city of Wilmington in the extreme northern part of the state. There is much history all throughout Delaware in all three counties. But the Wilmington area and New Castle County are particularly rich in colonial history. Indeed, the area known as Claymont, north of Wilmington, has historically identified inhabitants going back to almost 1600 BC. However the first European settlement in Delaware occurred at Fort Christina, in northern New Castle County, in 1638. The outgrowth of that settlement is what is now Wilmington.
