Milford Real Estate
The line for Kent and Sussex Counties runs through Milford real estate in the middle of Delaware. This is actually one of the larger cities with a population of 9,559 residents in the 2010 census. The area in Kent County was settled by Henry Bowan in 1680, so this is another populated area that goes back quite a long way. As was so common in those days, early industry began to sprout such as sawmills and gristmills. The many inland waterways in Delaware made for a natural birth of shipbuilders in the Milford area, as well. Milford is a conveniently located town with fast access to Dover to the north and the beach resorts to the south. In May of 2003, a fire started late on a Friday afternoon in the historic downtown section. When the blaze was finally extinguished, an entire city block had been destroyed. Over 200 firefighters from eighteen towns and cities including two departments from towns in nearby Maryland contributed to the effort. Fortunately there were no fatalities and only several people were injured. Otherwise, Milford is a peaceful town quietly existing just a short drive south of Dover. Since the completion of the Route 1 bypass, most people only see exit signs for Milford on their way to and from the southern resort beaches.

Milford has five public schools which provide grades pre-kindergarten through high school education for residents. However most students attend Milford Senior High School to complete their standard education. Since Dover is not very far from Milford, parents and students may consider taking advantage of this proximity to consider alternatives, if desired. By doing so you will find more choices which will include private education opportunities. Of course there is much to choose from for entertainment and relaxation in the area. This is not a large city or town by any means. For example, if you enjoy golf, there are quite a few golf courses in this area as well as near Dover to the north. If your family loves the outdoors, much of the surrounding area is somewhat rural. You can take your family on picnics to Killens Pond State Park which is near Felton and not far from Milford. Many residents who purchase Milford real estate do so for a number of reasons. The town is centrally located and within minutes of Route 1 which offers clear driving north and south. In addition, this is definitely a small town atmosphere and devoid of crowds and congestion. There are ample choices in Milford and the surrounding communities for single family homes, condominiums and town home communities.
